ukactive is seeking a new Chair of its Membership Council with previous incumbent David Stalker completing his transition from the organisation at the end of April 2016.

The Membership Council is the formal elected voice of the membership base in ukactive governance, reporting to the ukactive Board, and taking on challenging topics of substance for the sector, such as the on-going issues relating to skills and workforce development.

There are nine seats on the Membership Council covering: Private Fitness Multi Site, Private Fitness Independent, Local Authority Leisure Trust, Local Authority Management Contractor, Local Authority, Educational Facility, Outdoor Activity Provider, Children’s Activity Provider and Wider Activity Provider.

ukactive is seeking a new Chair who will bring a substantial track record of leadership gained in the sector with deep experience in the issues of relevance to the ukactive membership base.

ukactive have released the specification for the role which is accessible here. The deadline for submission of interest is June 3rd 2016.

Commenting on the Membership Council election process, ukactive Executive Director Steven Ward said:

“We are excited to be opening up the opportunity for a new Chair to come in and lead our Membership Council, which consists of some of the key players across the broad physical activity sector.

The Membership Council plays a leading role in setting the agenda and tackling the critical issues for the sector. We look forward to bring a person on board with the experience and calibre to continue the excellent work that has been started by the Council. We would like to thank David Stalker for his excellent work in forming and galvanising the Membership Council as he hands it over to his successor and concludes his formal time with ukactive. He’ll remain a close friend of the organisation for years to come.”

Commenting on his role as previous Membership Council Chair, David Stalker said:

“It has been an enormous privilege to stand as the first Chair of the ukactive Membership Council as part of its renewed governance structure.

The next Chair will have a big role to play in representing our industry and pushing on with the crucial work of the Council.

I leave the position knowing the organisation is going from strength to strength, with a new Chair able to join Steven Ward and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson in steering the organisation towards continued success in serving the needs of its members.”

The Membership Council forms a key part of the governance structure of ukactive, put in place in 2015 by Executive Director Steven Ward and the ukactive Chair Baroness Grey-Thompson.
